Small Business Resource Guide

These are websites that provide services that are free at a basic level. The Nevins Memorial Library does not specifically endorse or oppose any business purchase.

Finding & Editing Images

Pixabay – This free stock image site features stunning photos and clipart. Check each photo’s usage rights before using them.

Nappy – This free stock photo features non-white photos that are extremely high-quality. Check each photo’s usage rights before using them.

Pexels – Much like Pixabay, this features amazing photos, and, it also has videos that can be used (mostly) for free. Check each photo/video’s usage rights before using them.

Unsplash – A free stock photo site featuring very high-quality images. Check each photo’s usage rights before using them.

Negative Space – A free stock photo site featuring very high-quality images. Check each photo’s usage rights before using them.

Canva – Graphic design made free and easy.

Gimp – Free, open source, trustworthy Photoshop clone.

Piktochart – The basic package of this fancy infographic-maker is free, including an unlimited number of creations.

Communication

Mailchimp – Design and send mass emails to your subscribers with ease. Free for businesses with under 2000 subscribers, up to 12,000 emails per month.

SurveyMonkey – Make your own surveys! Free up to 100 survey responses for 10-question surveys. For small and local businesses, this survey-creation and distribution engine can be very useful.

Doodle – Schedule meetings easily and for free. An individual account with basic features costs nothing.

WordPress – Free simple website creation and blogging.

Collaboration and Storage

Trello – A collaborative online workspace featuring file sharing and boards. The basic version is free.

Todoist – A collaborative To Do List that can be used to assign things, or for your own workflow. With the free version you can have 5 projects and 300 active tasks.

Google Drive – Free cloud storage and collaborative editing tools with every Google account.

Dropbox – The first 2GB of stored data on this cloud drive is free.

Wave – free business accounting software. Some additional services, like payroll, are available for pay-as-you-go.

LibreOffice – A completely free clone of Microsoft Office that can be downloaded from the Internet.

Gimp – Free, open source, trustworthy Photoshop clone.

Skype – Free computer-to-computer (and device-to-device) calling. You can all phones, but that will cost you.

Zoom – Free video conferencing, webinars, chat, virtual events and more.
