The Friends of the Nevins Library had another exceptionally active and productive year since our last annual meeting in October 2015. We have held fundraisers, assisted at library events, worked on long-range plans, funded many library projects and began fundraising for Phase II of theNevins Library Garden Project. Phase II of the garden will incorporate a larger open plaza adjacent to the Children’s Garden and will include additional seating, historic statuary and a water feature.
Our monthly meetings are held on the first Monday of each month, except for July, at 7:00PM. All members of the Friends are invited to attend any of our meetings. The Executive Board welcomes ideas and participation from the membership.

Thank you to all members who attended General Meetings and to all of the many other members who volunteered to help out in our many activities. Those volunteers are too numerous to mention in this brief report, but their help is deeply appreciated!Without them, we could not be as successful as we are.
At this time I would like to briefly review the Friends’ activities since my last report. Immediately following our Annual Meeting in October 2015, we held a dining fundraiser at Margarita’s Mexican Restaurant. It was very well attended and we received a check in the amount of $282.00 from Margarita’s as well as an additional donation of $633.00 from the corporation’s “Full Moon Madness” event. In December 2015, we held our Barnes & NobleBook Fair which was extremely successful. We were able to present our Library Director a gift card in the amount of $1,420.00 for the purchasing of materials for the Library. This was a $428.00 increase over the previous year. The spring of 2016 was busy for the Friends. In March we held our Spring Book Sale which raised approximately $3,100.00. During the month of April the Friends hosted their first fundraiser for the garden project. It was an Indoor Miniature Golf Tournament which raised approximately $5,800.00 and was extremely well received by the community! The Friends continued with their fundraising efforts with a Krispy Kreme Donut Day in June. Proceeds raised for this event, which were $546.00, also went to the garden project. The year wrapped up with our Fall Book Sale which was held the weekend of September 24th with a “Preview Night” on September 23rd.
In addition to the activities listed above, the Friends have also been able to provide: (1) passes to popular museums, which total 17 the we support financially; (2) children, teen and adult summer reading programs; (3) book review magazine entitled “Book Page” (4) maintenance of the fish tank outside the Children’s Room and (5) support for the Nevins Literacy Program. We also had designed Friends of the Library umbrellas with the new library logo appearing on them. They will be available for sale beginning in October 2016.
Upcoming events this year will include: MCTV’s 20th Anniversary Volunteer Membership Fair on October 8th which we will participate in, a dining fundraiser at The Irish CottageRestaurant in Methuen, MA on Tuesday, October 18th, and the Barnes & Noble Book Fair in Salem, NH on Saturday, December 3rd. In 2017, we will continue fundraising extensively for Phase II of theGarden Project. We will continue with our Spring and Fall Book Sales, a Fall dining fundraiser and another Indoor Miniature Golf Tournament. Details for all our events are posted under www.nevinslibrary.org either on the Library’s main page or on the Friends of the Library page.
Thank you to the members of the Friends of the Nevins Library who have worked throughout the year in support of our fund raising efforts.
